Scott Frankfurt is a Los Angeles based producer,
arranger, composer, musician, synthesist, engineer, technologist and is among
the new breed of highly sought after "crossover" talent. Blending
technical and musical disciplines, he takes creative advantage of
technology while pursuing the highest degree of musicality. His
work is heard on a diverse palette of musical recordings, including
works by
Whitney Houston ("One Wish"),
Barbra
Streisand ("Higher Ground"), Christopher
Cross ("Walking in Avalon"), Yo Yo
Ma ("Soul of the Tango", 1999 Grammy winner), Chaka Kahn ("12 Soulful
Nights of Christmas"), Michael Jackson ("Black or White" Video), Philippe
Saisse, Twila Paris (Sanctuary), the Pointer Sisters, "Chicago" and "Boyz II Men among many others.
His film work includes Oliver Stone's film "On Any
Given Sunday", Shaquille O'Neal's feature "Steel" (Mervyn Warren),
"Nothing to Lose" (Robert Folk), "Sunset Park" (Miles Goodman), "Speechless",
"Simon Birch" (Marc Shaiman). Scott's scoring for picture is showcased in several independent films, as well as the high definition National Geographic documentary "Tempest from the Deep".
As a recording
artist, Scott and his late wife Jody Moreing Frankfurt released four critically acclaimed pop-styled CCM recordings
as "street called Straight". Currently, Scott serves as Vice President at the world reknowned virtual instrument manufacturer Spectrasonics, industry leaders in the Virtual Musical Instrument business, alongside founders Eric & Lorey Persing.
After studying classical piano
as a child, Scott discovered a passion for the drums at
age 13. He studied privately with Bob Kasha, Nick
Vincent, and Fred Gruber and his dedication to the drums
quickly propelled him to receive several scholarships
(Herb Alpert; N.A.J.E.; North Texas State) which led to
formal training at University of Southern California, and
Cal State Northridge.
During that time, Scott played
in local bands and supplemented his income by teaching
drums and working in the music retail industry, where he
was introduced to a new technology, the drum machine.
Scott fervently pursued
music technology as a way to expand his usefulness as a session
player. The love of song
writing led him back to the keyboard and he became fascinated with sound synthesis.
After becoming proficient with
analog and digital synthesis, Scott began a parallel
career as a "sound designer", where he applied his skills
for various music equipment manufacturers (Emu, Roland,
Yamaha, Korg, Ensoniq, Spectrasonics) developing the sounds, software, and
demonstration music used in professional keyboards and virtual instruments
throughout the world.
